Vitalis Rapid Access Clinics
Getting answers sooner.
Waiting for a diagnosis is one of the hardest parts of being unwell. Our rapid access clinics are built to shorten that wait.
Each clinic brings together the consultation, the diagnostic test, and — where it’s needed — the procedure itself, so you’re not sent from place to place across weeks or months. Most patients are seen by a consultant within two weeks of their referral, and referrals are reviewed within 48 hours of arriving.
Your family doctor stays informed throughout. We send consultation notes, procedure reports, and follow-up plans back to them promptly, so the person who knows your health best always has the full picture.
Ask your family doctor or nurse practitioner for a referral to Vitalis. We also provide seamless transition from our walk-in clinics to specialist to minimize the wait time to see the specialist.
Rapid Diagnostic Oncology Clinic
When something needs looking at quickly.
Sometimes a scan, a blood test, or a physical exam turns up something that needs a closer look — and needs it soon. This clinic exists for exactly that moment.
We bring together assessment, imaging review, and tissue diagnosis in one coordinated pathway, so that if a diagnosis is needed, it comes quickly. And if it turns out to be nothing serious — which is often the case — you find that out quickly too.
You may be referred here if you have:
- A lump or mass that needs early tissue diagnosis
- A suspected cancer found on imaging or during an examination
- Unexplained weight loss alongside other symptoms
- An abnormal screening result that needs urgent follow-up
What to expect: A consultation with a specialist, arrangement of any imaging or biopsy required, and a clear plan for what happens next. If further treatment is needed, we coordinate that referral for you.
Head-Neck Oncology & Endocrine Surgery Clinic
Specialist care for the thyroid, neck, and surrounding structures.
Thyroid nodules are common, and the great majority are harmless — but they need proper assessment to know that with confidence. This clinic provides that assessment and, where treatment is needed, the surgical and non-surgical options to follow through
You may be referred here if you have:
- A thyroid nodule found on examination or imaging
- A neck lump that has lasted more than three weeks
- Hoarseness lasting more than three weeks, difficulty swallowing, or unexplained ear pain
- Thyroid test results that don’t match your symptoms
- Raised calcium with raised parathyroid hormone (hyperparathyroidism)
Radiofrequency ablation of benign thyroid nodules
For some benign thyroid nodules, we offer radiofrequency ablation — a technique that uses targeted heat to shrink a nodule without removing the thyroid gland. For suitable patients, it can be an alternative to thyroid surgery, avoiding a general anaesthetic, a neck scar, and the need for lifelong thyroid medication.
Not every nodule is suitable for this approach. Whether it’s the right option for you depends on the size, position, and nature of the nodule — something we’ll discuss openly with you at your consultation.
Rectal Bleeding & Anorectal Clinic
Straightforward answers about symptoms people don’t like discussing.
Rectal bleeding is common and usually has a simple, treatable cause. But it should never be ignored or self-diagnosed, because occasionally it points to something that needs prompt attention. This clinic gives you a definitive answer without a long wait — and treats the cause in the same place.
You may be referred here if you have:
- Rectal bleeding, particularly alongside a change in your bowel habits
- Bleeding that hasn’t settled with conservative treatment
- An anorectal lump, fistula, fissure, or symptomatic haemorrhoids
- Iron-deficiency anaemia thought to originate in the lower bowel
- Chronic diarrhoea or suspected inflammatory bowel disease
What to expect: A consultation and examination, with same-visit endoscopy where appropriate. Many anorectal conditions can be treated during your visit or scheduled promptly in our day surgery unit.
Hematuria & PSA Clinic
Rapid urology assessment for blood in the urine and prostate concerns.
Blood in the urine — whether you can see it or it’s picked up on a test — always warrants investigation. So does a raised or rising PSA. In most cases the cause is benign, but establishing that quickly matters, both for your peace of mind and so that anything more serious is caught early.
You may be referred here if you have:
- Visible blood in the urine, at any age
- Blood detected on urine testing, with risk factors such as age over 50, smoking history, or occupational exposure
- Recurrent urinary infections with unexplained blood in the urine
- A PSA above the threshold for your age, or a PSA that is rising over time
- An abnormal prostate examination, whatever the PSA result
- A kidney mass of 4 cm or smaller found incidentally, or a complex cystic lesion
What to expect: Consultant assessment with on-site diagnostics, including cystoscopy where indicated, and a clear plan before you leave.
Uterine Bleeding & Abnormal Pap Test Clinic
Prompt gynaecological assessment, without months of waiting.
Abnormal bleeding and abnormal cervical screening results are both common reasons for referral — and both are situations where waiting is genuinely difficult. This clinic is designed to move quickly from referral through assessment to treatment.
You may be referred here if you have:
- Any bleeding after menopause
- Heavy or between-period bleeding that hasn’t responded to medical treatment
- An abnormal Pap result — HSIL, ASC-H, AGC, or persistent LSIL
- A positive high-risk HPV result alongside abnormal cytology
- A thickened endometrium found on ultrasound
What to expect: Consultation, examination, and same-visit diagnostics where appropriate — including colposcopy and endometrial sampling. Any treatment required can be arranged in our on-site day surgery unit.
Lumps & Bumps Clinic
A simple pathway for lumps that need removing or identifying.
Most lumps under the skin are benign — lipomas, cysts, and similar. But they can be uncomfortable, they can grow, and sometimes they need a tissue diagnosis to be certain what they are. This clinic handles assessment and removal in one place.
You may be referred here if you have:
- A soft tissue lump that needs excision or biopsy
- A lipoma or cyst that is enlarging, painful, or otherwise troublesome
- A lump of uncertain cause that needs a tissue diagnosis
- A long-standing lump that has recently changed in size or texture
- A lump near a sensitive area — around the eyes, ears, nose, or mouth — where careful surgical technique matters
What to expect: Assessment and, in many cases, removal under local anaesthetic during the same visit. Anything removed is sent for laboratory examination, and we contact you with the result.
Skin Cancer Clinic
Assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of suspicious skin lesions.
Skin cancers are among the most treatable cancers when caught early — which makes prompt assessment genuinely worthwhile. This clinic provides examination, biopsy, and surgical treatment in a single coordinated pathway.
You may be referred here if you have:
- A mole or pigmented lesion with concerning features — asymmetry, irregular border, colour change, increasing diameter, or evolution over time
- An ulcer or sore that hasn’t healed within four weeks
- A biopsy-confirmed basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma requiring excision
- A lesion that has returned at the site of a previous excision
What to expect: Examination with dermoscopy, biopsy where needed, and surgical excision arranged promptly. All excised tissue goes for laboratory examination and we follow up with you on the results.
Minor Treatment Clinic
Quick treatment for the everyday problems that shouldn’t mean an emergency room wait.
Not every problem needs a hospital, but plenty of them need more than can be managed at home. This clinic handles minor procedures promptly, in comfortable surroundings, with extended hours that fit around work.
We treat:
- Ingrown toenails
- Abscesses requiring drainage
- Lacerations needing closure
- Foreign bodies in the skin
- Skin tags and benign lesions requiring removal
- Other minor procedures suitable for local anaesthetic
What to expect: Most treatments are completed during your visit under local anaesthetic, and you go home the same day with clear aftercare instructions.
Endoscopy Services
Two on-site endoscopy suites, with rapid access.
Colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy
Examination of the large bowel. You may be referred if you have:- A positive result from bowel cancer screening (FIT / ColonCheck)
- A change in bowel habits, rectal bleeding, or iron-deficiency anaemia
- A personal or family history requiring surveillance — previous polyps, previous bowel cancer, or a family history of it
- Suspected cancer on imaging or examination (fast-tracked as urgent)
Gastroscopy
Examination of the oesophagus, stomach, and upper small bowel. You may be referred if you have:- Indigestion that hasn’t improved with acid-reducing medication
- Difficulty or pain when swallowing
- Confirmed or suspected coeliac disease
- A history requiring surveillance — previous polyps, Barrett’s oesophagus, or intestinal metaplasia
- Suspected cancer on imaging (fast-tracked as urgent)
